Trait Talk 📻 Do It For The Skullture
The cult of Skull swept across Solana NFT-land unlike anything we have ever seen before. Dive into the history of Skulls and the A-lister community that has formed around them.
Trait Talk explores the history of Mad Lads designs, the vibrant communities formed around specific traits and the influence they have on NFT culture.
First up: the cult of Skull.
Skulls are the rarest pieces in the entire collection, just ninety-nine of the otherworldly beings roam the Solana blockchain.
Skulls trait scarcity is no accident.
Mad Lads designers purposefully created low volumes of certain traits to create exclusivity within the collection.
You see this with many of the most popular designs like Galaxies, Lassies, Alberts, Bouffants and Busters.

Skulls bring the *heat* 🔥
Skulls are the most distinctive (and non-human) pieces in the 10,000 piece collection.
There are 99 Skulls in total and their most notable differentiating factor is the “Eye” subtrait which determines the flame color.
They also “bring the heat” in terms of sales volume. Skulls are the most sought after pieces of art in the entire collection.
The four most recent sales have raked in over 4,600 SOL (nearly $350,000 USD).
The Mad Skulls subcommunity 🏠
The Mad Skulls (briefly known as Mad Skulls DAO) are the preeminent subcommunity of the Mad Lads collection and boast a star studded lineup of holders.
Holders are invited to join a Telegram group chat that includes the likes of Anatoly Yakovenko, Degen Founder, Solana Legend, Armani Ferrante, Tristan Yver, Gonzalo Gutierrez, MadderCrab David and dozens more of the most talented minds in crypto.
Recently they formed a “Council of Five” that includes voting members SIN, Retired Chad Dev and Kadense (non-voting members are Solana Legend and Tristan).
It is unclear exactly what the Council of Five will be doing but the group did post an ominous statement a few weeks ago:
To move forward, sometimes you need to burn the past.
Mad Skulls “Fireside Chat” series is off to a healthy start 🪵
The group kicked off its “Fireside Chat” Spaces series with none other than Mad Lads founder Armani Ferrante.
Solana Legend was the host, the duo took a philosophic dive into the history of Coral, Anchor, Backpack and solving the “FTX problem”.
Listen to the first episode here.
Solana Legend hosted a second fireside chat with Solana founder Anatoly Yakovenko (Toly) a few weeks later.
Toly took the opportunity to write a love letter to projects building on Solana, discuss the best way to accelerate the ecosystem and coming to terms with the community that has formed around the blockchain.
Listen to the second episode here.
The future of the Mad Skulls is not clear 💀
There has not been much official chatter from the Mad Skulls about their plans for the future but rest assured that they have formed the group of people needed to make big things happen.
If you are interested in joining the Mad Skulls community, head over to your favorite marketplace and be prepared for the sticker shock of 1000+ SOL for the lowest listing.
