The Amy Street Interview: IRL Blockchain Event Planning and Uplifting Women in Web3
Solana event planning, how to talk to normies about crypto and uplifting women in the web3 space - we cover it all in the Amy Street interview.
Amy Street has been active in the Solana community for years and most recently has taken a position as Head of Growth at ROVE (in addition to being a Solana Mobile Ambassador).
ROVE is ticketing and event planning platform, they planned and delivered the first Solana Summer Fest earlier this month that brought together community members from around the world.
Letβs dive in!
What are you responsible for at events like these?
Amy: I am the event producer for Web3 events, Solana Summer Fest was my first swing at a Web3 Event that was top to bottom my vision.
From Event vision and structure, organizing strategic sponsorships, and over all event planning and production.
Solana Summer Fest was my first swing at a Web3 Event that was top to bottom my vision.
How was the ROVE app used during Solana Summer Fest?
Amy: We launched a new product with SSF [Solana Summer Fest]. This was a ticketing site that is tied to the Rove World app where you can mint a ticket using crypto or credit card, and, your ticket goes direct to the Rove World app when you sign in with your Gmail.
What can we expect from the next ROVE events?
Amy: ROVE Events are going to be MUCH more than just Web3 Events. We have some exciting announcements surrounding what that looks like soon.
But as for the the rest of the year in the Blockchain space, we will be ticketing a bunch of the Breakpoint Side Events in the app, we will be hosting a special event of our own at Breakpoint, and I will be producing something pretty huge and exciting at Art Basel this year for ROVE.
How do you describe crypto, NFTs and the blockchain to people you meet in the offline world?
Amy: I have a few metaphors I use actually: For NFTs I use a driver license metaphor asking them questions about the validity and what it's backed by and eventually the utility of a driver's license.
I tie all this into explaining how an NFT is tied to a contract and the contract dictates what the NFT represents. I explain utility and fungibility using the license anchor as well.
I have metaphors I use to explain Blockchain and Crypto as well. I find it much easier than trying to use out of touch language and watered down explanations.
Giving people an anchor of something they already know helps shape understanding and does a better job onboarding in my experience. I guess this is the ex-teacher in me.
What excites you most about the future of web3?
Amy: Solving real world problems so people donβt think we are crazy gambling idiots for believing in this stuff. While we are a bunch of crazy gambling idiots and I wholeheartedly love participating in the degeneracy.
Itβs extra exciting knowing that we are at the forefront of the future of media, art, culture, technology, and finance. As *Miss America* as it sounds, I canβt wait till blockchain and Web3 help to make change for the better.
Amy has been an ardent supporter of women in the web3 space and has helped produce multiple events focused on uplifting the ladies of our industry.
What advice would you give to other women looking to build careers in web3?
Amy: Thereβs a lot of people who are here to help and bond in community and there are also people who are not going to look out for you so itβs important to find your people, because itβs difficult at times to do it alone.
Listen and Ask questions. Donβt jump into anything in this space too quickly. Take lots of notes. Find your tribe of people you click with.
Go to in real-life events and connect. The best thing you can do for your career is to build your network.
What female-led projects and teams are you most bullish about right now?
Amy: Sator.io is a female lead project built on Solana that has two incredible female founders. It is on the forefront of Web3 Streaming apps and Iβm really excited about their future.
3Land, Founded by Bangerz, is an innovative metaverse/marketplace for NFTs and 1/1 Art. They have some really impressive tech integrated into her metaverse and cool things coming for content creators.
Gaia is not as forward facing and therefore I think publicly undersung, but is force to be reckoned and founder of Claynosaurz. I am forever bullish on her.
I also have to say the Solana Events team is made up of some of the most impressive powerhouse women that I also believe deserve more shine. Ellie, Asia, and Amelia are quite a team and do so much for the Solana ecosystem.
